ENDOSCOPIC CARPAL TUNNEL RELEASE
POST OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Keep arm elevated above the level of your heart as often as possible for 2 days after surgery.
2. Flex & extend fingers frequently.
3. Keep post-op dressing dry & clean.
4. Remove bandage on day 3 after surgery and cover incision with a band-aid.
5. It is Ok to shower at this time. Let soap and water run over the incision. Do not soak or scrub the area. Pat the incision dry with a towel.
6. Once the incision area is dry, apply Bacitracin or Neosporin ointment and a band-aid.
7. Call the office at 301-949-8100 to set your post-op appointment to be seen between 7-10 days after surgery. Sutures will be removed at this time.
8. Bruising and swelling of the fingers is normal and anticipated.
9. Bruising of the forearm (above the dressing) is normal and expected.
10. During the first week, lift nothing heavier than 1 pound. It is Ok to grip a pen or pencil when this is comfortable (2-3 days after surgery)
11. Grip strengthening will begin after the sutures are removed.
12. Avoid heavy gripping or lifting for 3 weeks.
13. IF YOU EXPERIENCE INCREASING PAIN, REDNESS, SWELLING OR DRAINING from the wrist, call our office immediately (301)949-8100
